Import website content into Knowledge
Connect a website source, review the pages Protodesk imports, and publish only trusted content.
Updated
Connect a website source when trusted pages already exist outside Protodesk and should be available to teammates and AI assistance.
Website Knowledge is internal source material. It does not automatically publish those pages in your customer-facing Help Center.
Connect the website
- Open Knowledge → Sources.
- Select Connect source.
- Choose Website.
- Enter the starting URL and the requested source details.
- Review the import options, then start the connection.
Use the most specific starting location that contains the content you trust. Avoid connecting broad domains that mix product guidance with unrelated marketing, legal, or archived pages.
Review the imported source
The source appears with a processing status while Protodesk discovers and reads pages. Wait until processing finishes, then open the source and review what was imported.
Check for:
- obsolete product instructions;
- duplicate pages or localized copies;
- pages outside the intended section;
- private information exposed on a public URL; and
- conflicting answers to the same question.
Publish only content that is current and safe for teammates and AI to reuse. Archive or remove material that should no longer ground an answer.

After publishing the source, open Test knowledge and ask realistic customer questions. Inspect the answer and retrieved evidence. A successful crawl only proves that pages were imported; testing confirms whether the source produces useful, grounded answers.
Revisit the source after substantial website changes. If an old page remains available online, it can continue to introduce stale guidance until you archive or update the corresponding Knowledge content.
